Hypnotikos

Restless, tossing, turning, mind racing, unable to sleep. The harder I tried, the more it eluded me. Just out of reach hour after hour it teased. Looking at the red faced clock I counted off the seconds, minutes, hours. Slow deep breathes, trying to free the mind of the countless meaningless images - thoughts that swept in on the winds of a tornado they swirled round and round. Hard as I tried, I failed to fill the mind with darkness, the void of nothingness escaped off into the distance taking with it the restful sleep I sought. Night turned to day.  It should be a day of calm, a day to rejuvenate the body, the mind, the soul. A day to forget the hectic week past but my mind continues to play every act of the week's play over and over. Sometimes in the chaos, it all shifts to next week and the calendar of things to do. My mind unable to  compartmentalize things, the filing cabinet that usually can be found neatly organized is array with disorder. Where is a hypnotist when you need one.....

A hypnotist? I save the money, I find gin works just fine.

mistress Maddie; it would be a lot cheaper I'm sure since I'm one of those you would call a cheap drunk....never no gin in the house and beer probably a six pack would last six months around me....so a shot or two would have done the trick....

Lately I have been having the same trouble. Two weeks ago I was supposed to go to an event Saturday; however my plans were spoiled by a night completely void of sleep. At 5:30 a.m. I got up and started my day. I seem to forget things all day and remember them all night.

Sooo-this-is-me (Steven), I do not wish this on anyone, sorry it happens to you as well. Mind racing, will not shut down no matter how hard you try, if fact the harder you try the worst it gets. It doesn't happen to me very often but Lord help when it does. My prayer for the both of us is peaceful sleep....

Thank God I sleep. My husband on the other hand... he's been known to bake a ham in the middle of the night. Oye.

JP; thank your lucky stars, like I told Steven, it doesn't happen often but when it does its a waking nightmare. I'm sorry your husband goes through this, but Guido is a dream man to have....a freshly baked slice of ham in the morning.. oh my! I hope you always remember to reward him....

15 minute rule: if you can't fall asleep by 15 minutes stop trying get up/go out and do something else until tired.

Your story is the story of my sleeping life. I hate it when I don't sleep as it really makes for a difficult day ahead. Like you, I cannot compartmentalize things. Wish to God I could. Wish I could just turn my mind off every night! I always fall asleep, but if I am in one of these cycles, I will awaken at 1:00 in the morning and I am up. Not good.

UR-spo; good sound advise I should do this instead of stubbornly trying to will myself to sleep.
