Regrets of A Straight Kind

When all is said and done, will you have any regrets in life? Well, Stephen will have a few, some you already know and I will not rehash them in this post.. This post is about regrets of the straight kind, and is one, never shared. I regret, ok here it goes, I regret not knowing how to play an instrument. I know, silly right? What instrument you may ask? Well, if I haven't already given it away by matching the photo with the post I share, it would be the Cello. I love the sound, it warms the cockles of my heart and at the same time its resonating deep sound chills me to the bone. The bow as it slides over the strings, the sound of its music, breathtakingly beautiful. I know what you're thinking, but your wrong. The proverbial can't teach an old dog new tricks definitely does apply here. I know my limitations and I'm not ashamed to admit them. The skill to master an instrument I did not acquire but that's ok. I am content to sit on the sideline and listen.. Not one but two cellos and a old time favorite: 2CELLOS - Hurt

I also regret not learning to play an instrument, I started playing piano at twelve and could read music, but it was hard to get time on a piano and I lost interest. I regret that a lot because imagine how well I could play now if I stuck with it. Also guitar, my Dad's Martin sits silent. The cello is beautiful sounding.

You guess don't have to play an instrument to appreciate the sound. But thanks, as usual in your posts, for provoking the thought. I think you might be more musical than you think...

John-Gray; thanks for the little nudge of encouragement, but trust me, these fingers and this mind can do many things, but the perseverance of learning the cello. I don't think so.

Sooo-this-is-me: At least I'm not sailing this boat alone. Reading music, a totally foreign language. It is like learning Spanish and getting the tongue to roll the R's. My tongue can do wonderful things but it can't roll a R either, I'm hopeless. LOL

JP, Oh, I got music in my soul, lol, it just don't travel from the brain to the fingers. Somewhere along the nerve pathway the synapse has a short circuit and just can't find it way. Maybe I need a GPS.

I am so with you on that, wish I could play anything but if I had a choice it would be the cello.
Cheers Peter

My regret in life is not taking my passion in playing a musical instrument beyond the college years. It seems all stopped after college, except for the returns to college to play with the alumni band. I played trombone and baritone/euphonium. But never "mastered" the instruments. I did however, enjoy playing euphonium in the orchestra in high school where I did play with the cellos and violins and the "symphony" of music was many times euphoric. Thanks for sharing!

I love the cello. Thanks for the video. I too never followed through with learning to play an instrument, something which I regret. My new goal is to learn Spanish. I am going to start this summer. I can speak rust, passable French, but it is of no use where I live now. So..it is never late to learn something new!

I can't type English...that is rusty French...not rust French!

Steven, I'm impressed, two instruments trombone and euphonium two big horn instruments. You may not have mastered them as you say, but you played them so that counts in my book.

Michael; It happens to all of us typing that is. Don't get me started with language, I took Latin, who in the world takes Latin, it was a dead language then and a dead language now.

My piano teacher liked to point out he never learned to play until he was in his 40s.
I strongly suggest taking some lessons, now. you will not regret that.

Ur-spo; thanks for the encouragement. I know it is never too late in life, as long as there is breathe, to attempt. Never know, I might just bite the bullet and do. Heck the least that could happen is having another large conversation piece in the corner collecting dust. lol
